Copper assists in the formation of haemoglobin and red blood cells by facilitating iron absorption. Copper is involved in protein metabolism and plays an important role in the healing process, and is required for the synthesis of phospholipids, substances essential in the formation of the protective myelin sheaths surrounding nerve fibres. Copper works with vitamin C in the formation of elastin, a chief component of the elastic muscle fibres throug hout the body.
