Black Cohosh is also know as Squaw Root, Rattle Weed or Black Snake root, and is a native herb in Canada, Eastern USA and Europe. It grows in shady and rocky woods, flowering in June or July. The roots are unearthed with the rhizome in Autumn after the fruits have ripened, they are cut lengthwise and carefully dried.

Cautions
Not recommended in pregnancy until labour. Use under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. Large doses can cause the symptoms of poisoning. Should be used for up to six months then discontinued. Women taking oestrogen therapy should consult their GP before using Black Cohosh.
