INTRAFRESH (Yeastguard) is unique because the L. acidophilus in each pessary has been stabilised and then combined into a soluble wax. As the pessary gradually dissolves, its probiotic activity is uniformly dispersed If the microflora are disrupted, as sometimes happens for example, due to hormonal fluctuations, during the menopause, or after antibiotics - these friendly bacteria can be reduced or even eliminated, resulting in their protective effect being lost. That's when undesirable bacteria or yeasts such as Candida albicans can become dominant (vaginal thrush is often associated with an overgrowth of Candida) throug hout the vagina. This also provides the added advantage of maximising contact time on the vaginal wall.
