The various antioxidant related substances incorporated into this supplement counter the damaging effects of exercise-indused free radical production. In additon, the omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids present in this supplement are precursors of beneficial eicosanoids, which have a modulating effect on inflammation.
Individuals undergoing strenuous physical exercise, as a result of increased oxygen consumption, produce increased levels of damaging free radicals, particularly in the skeletal muscle tissues. These free radicals interfere with the ability of muscle to contract, contributing to muscle fatigue, as well as damaging the muscle tissues itself. In additon, strenuous and repetative movements activate an imflammatory response, which can also result in oxidative damage to muscle tissues induced by free radicals; these are released by infiltrating inflammatory cells attached to the site of injury.
