Extended Info
A potent blend of organic natural plant foods, rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients and detoxifying compounds. ANTIOXIDANT - Green tea polyphenols are potent antioxidant compounds that have demonstrated greater antioxidant protection than vitamins C and E in experimental studies. CELLULAR PROTECTION - Investigators have shown that green tea may decrease the risk of cancer. It is widely accepted that the main active component of green tea is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Studies have examined the effect of green tea on breast cancer growth and endothelial cells in in vitro assays. Furthermore, comparisons have been made on the potency of the different catechin components of green tea extract (GTE), including EGCG. Data has shown that mixed GTE and its individual catechin components were effective in inhibiting breast cancer and endothelial cell proliferation. Green tea consumption with meals may inhibit the formation of nitrosamines (carcinogenic compounds). WEIGHT CONTROL - In vitro, green tea extract has been shown to exert a direct inhibition of gastric and pancreatic lipases and a stimulation of thermogenesis. In an open study, the effects of green tea extract were evaluated in moderately obese patients. After 3 months, body weight was decreased by 4.6% and waist circumference by 4.48%. Results suggest that green tea extract can be a helpful for the treatment of obesity, which exerts its activity by several ways: inhibition of lipases and stimulation of thermogenesis (metabolic production of heat). DETOXIFICATION - In addition to exerting its own antioxidant effects, green tea has been shown to increase the activity of antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glutathione S-transferase, catalase, and quinone reductase). CARDIOVASCULAR AND LIVER PROTECTION - A Japanese study involving some 1400 individuals has shown that increased consumption of green tea was associated with decreased serum concentrations of total cholesterol and triglyceride and an increased proportion of HDL cholesterol together with a decreased proportion of LDL cholesterols, which resulted in a decreased atherogenic index. Moreover, increased consumption of green tea has been shown to decrease concentrations of hepatological markers in serum, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine transferase, and ferritin.
