P 5-P is the active co-enzyme form of Vitamin B6, which is part of the water soluble B-Complex and is not stored in the body. Conversion to P-5-P occurs in the liver and requires Riboflavin and Magnesium. People with impaired liver function may have difficulty in converting Vitamin B6 to its co-enzyme form, therefore the P-5-P form would be a preferable way to supplement this vitamin. Vitamin B6 helps to maintain a healthy nervous system, brain and immune function and is required for the synthesis of DNA and RNA, which contain the genetic instructions for cell replication and cellular function. Vitamin B6 also maintains cardiovascular health, it prevents levels of the toxic metabolite of methionine, homocysteine, from rising.
