Arginine is involved in the transport and storage of nitrogen in muscle tissue. Studies also suggest it may enhance growth hormone release (the amounts that may be required for this are thoug ht to vary greatly from person to person). Ammonia, a major toxin to the liver, is converted into urea by arginine. Research shows that arginine supplementation enhances collagen synthesis and speeds repair time of tissue injury from surgery.
